How to Remove A Fishbone Stuck in Your Gums?

In cuisine, fishbones are usually removed and not eaten because we fear that it may get caught on our gums or throat. But sometimes, these thin, tiny and sharp fishbones still find a way to get stuck in your oral cavity. A fishbone stuck in your gums can be painful, frightening and may lead to serious internal injuries. It can hugely affect the way you speak, eat and drink. In worst-case scenarios, it can induce infection and more critical health risks. Fortunately, this is a common accident that the best dental clinics in Manila have established tips on how to get rid of it immediately. These are the following:

(1) For superficially embedded fishbones

Removing a small foreign body can be tricky but should be done as soon as possible to not increase the risk of infection. If a fishbone is superficially embedded in your gums, you can try these remedies before heading your into your dentist’s office.

· Chewing marshmallows gently will create a sticky and sugary net that can grab onto the fishbone hopefully enough to dislodge it.

· Eating bananas could do the same thing, too. Take a larget bite of banana and hold it in your mouth for 30 seconds and let it soak up some saliva. Chew it near the location of the fishbone so it can grab hold of it and remove it from the gums.

· Vinegar could also help as it is very acidic and can help break down the fishbone. Try diluting two (2) tablespoons of vinegar in a cup of water and gargle to make the fishbone softer and easier to remove.

Note: There are some cases when you can use your own hand to dislodge the bones or tweeze it out. But before you do so, make sure that your hands and tools are sterile to prevent infection.

(2) For deeply embedded fishbones

Aside from supporting your pearly whites, healthy gums are an effective barrier against periodontal diseases that can greatly harm your oral cavity. However, when a fishbone is deeply impaled into your pink gums, it will cause your gums to turn red, swell, bleed and accumulate bacterial plaque that may lead to infection and further dental issues. Keep these points in mind to prevent the problem from getting worse.

· Do not force to remove it on your own. Fishbones can break easily. One careless move can lodge deeper on your gums. Refrain from attempting to remove a deeply embedded fishbone with a toothbrush, floss or toothpick.

· If your gums already show signs of inflammation, mix a teaspoon of salt with a glass of warm water. Gargle and gently swish it around the area to reduce the swelling.

· Above all, see your dentist. Book an appointment in the best dental clinic in Manila to get premium care as soon as you can. The dentist will then locate and remove the fishbone with the help of a dental x-ray and sterile tools. This will help your gums to heal immediately and address other dental issues immediately.

Lastly, do not ignore a fishbone stuck in your gums and hope that it will improve. Abscess, infection, gum diseases, and other oral cavity threats may occur if not treated immediately. In case of deeply embedded fishbones, visit the best dental clinic in Manila right away!
